Stalled in Neutral

Shifter

I just discovered that I haven’t updated here in almost five days. That’s a long time to go without blogging. Even worse is that I haven’t touched Spirit Hackers. The one positive is that I did get my second article published on Suite101. It’s currently being reviewed for edits and then should go live soon.

I feel like I’ve been stuck in neutral for the past week, and not just with writing. I feel like I don’t have enough time for everything I want to do. Couple that with the desire to call out from work every day makes getting up the energy for anything tough. I don’t know if it’s the weather or the hustle & bustle of the holidays, but as my wife would say: “I’ve lost my pep.”

I totally slacked on my blog reading and finally got to catching up and posting some comments. Sorry to everyone who I’ve been out of the loop on.

I unfortunately don’t have any writing updates for you guys. I did come up with an idea for a non-fiction book but I’m not sure really if it’s something I should pursue and I have no clue where to even begin. Additionally, I don’t want to start any new projects until Spirit Hackers is complete (which at this pace will take years). I was thinking about the book the other night while driving home from work and I will need to consider re-working my outline and adding some major aspects to the book once the first draft is completed. I very well may need to start the book earlier in the timeline to give it more ‘meat’.

Finally, I was listening to a sci-fi podcast the other day and heard about this book called FlashForward. The Amazon description is A science experiment that unwittingly shuts down all human consciousness for two minutes is the catalyst for a creative exploration of fate, free will and the nature of the universe in Sawyer’s soul-searching new work (after Factoring Humanity).

This book seems to be right up my alley and I’ll definitely be reading it next. Anyhow, that it for now. Thanks for sticking around through the ‘blah-ness’.

Oh, I just fell in love with your wife. I love that line and I’m totally stealing it.

I think you’ll find Mel’s post today interesting. It deals with starting and finishing projects.

You can email me privately about your nonfiction idea if you’d like.

  2. Aaron, you’re writing articles and getting them published so you ARE writing. Don’t be too hard on yourself. It’s the holidays and everyone has a lot of other things going on.

  3. Auria- I’m glad you like the quote! Enjoy using it. 🙂 I also may take you up on the offer to e-mail you about the book idea.

Mel- Thank you! I didn’t look at it from that perspective and it honestly helped. I’m going to keep seeing it from that angle for the next few days until the holidays are over.

  4. I know how you feel, but as Mel has said its the holidays so you don’t need to deny yourself of that. I have all touch of my writing. The only writing that I seem to do is to dwelve into the insights of my hidden depths, astray from the social reality, which does get my creative juices flowing. I would love to get back into story writing again. Everytime I see a glimpse of an Adventure book or a movie I feel inspired to write something even better than that, and think to myself ‘that is easy to write’ but never actually get round to doing it. That book you have on your reading list, sounds just like my kind of book to read too. I’m going to take a sneak peek at it too. Thank you. Great to have bumped into your site. I found it via “The Bologna&CreamCheese Burrito Cantina” at AW.
